EGG HARBOR TWP.--Some local politicians are calling for a sales tax holiday.

Senator Tom Kean, Jr., along with Assemblymen John Amodeo and Vince Polistina, are calling for a sales tax holiday.

They say it would cut the sales tax from 7% to 3 ½%. In urban enterprise zones it would go from 3 ½% to 1.75%.

They say, much like the cash for clunkers program, it would spur additional purchases to increase revenue, "I think we can use that type of model where that is a partnership that creates incentives and in the end makes sure people are employed and make sure the state is more affordable," said Senator Kean.

The republicans had a similar sales tax holiday proposal last year, but it was never adopted.
