AMODEO/POLISTINA: NEW GAMING COMMISSION CRUCIAL FIRST STEP FOR ATLANTIC CITY’S REVIVAL |
ATLANTIC COUNTY LEGISLATORS SAY NEWLY CREATED COMMISSION IS A SIGN THAT GOV. CHRISTIE WILL NOT LET ATLANTIC CITY’S WOES CONTINUE Assemblymen John Amodeo and Vince Polistina, both R-Atlantic, welcomed today the creation of the New Jersey Gaming Sports and Entertainment Advisory Commission to determine how the state should proceed with its struggling casinos, racetracks and Meadowlands.
“For too long Atlantic City’s struggles amid increasing competition from other states and the economic collapse have been ignored by Trenton,” Amodeo said. “It is reassuring to see that Governor Christie is committed to making Atlantic City a premier attraction as well as finding ways for all our state’s entertainment and gaming facilities to coexist and succeed. This commission will be crucial for Atlantic City to reclaim its place as an economic engine of the state.” In addition to Atlantic City, Christie said the panel will look for solutions to fix the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, Xanadu and ways to make New Jersey’s horse-racing industry self-sustaining without continuing the subsidy it gets from casinos. “Without bold ideas, our state’s struggling entertainment and gaming attractions will continue to cannibalize each other to extinction - costing thousands of families their livelihood and needed revenue to other states,” Polistina said. “Assemblyman Amodeo and I are willing to work with the commission some of the ideas we have to revive Atlantic City. “I expect the commission will study every possible alternative from every possible source,” Polistina added. “The commission’s work is too important for our region and the state, all interests depending on tourism and gaming must work together.” Amodeo and Polistina have a comprehensive plan to revitalize the Atlantic City region including completing the Revel casino, streamlining casino regulations and improving the city’s marketing to improve its standing as a summer tourism resort. #### |
